Why You Should Use A Water Filter: Stop Drinking From Tap Water & Water Bottles

This post is all about why you may want to consider using a water filter for your drinking water.

While tap water may be safe to drink in many areas, there are some potential concerns associated with it. Check the EWG’s Tap Water Data Base to check your city’s water contamination levels.

Many chemicals that are found in water are chlorine, chloramine, lead, microplastics, and various contaminants. When you drink polluted water over a long period it can disrupt your hormones and cause an array of health issues over a long time.

On the other hand, water bottles are not the best option either. Some plastic water bottles are made from materials that contain potentially harmful chemicals such as bisphenol A (BPA) or phthalates. These chemicals can leach into the water, especially when exposed to heat or over time. BPA, in particular, has been linked to various health issues, including hormonal disruption and reproductive problems.

Plastic water bottles, especially those made from polyethylene terephthalate (PET), can shed microplastic particles into the water over time. Ingestion of microplastics has been associated with potential health risks, although more research is needed to understand the implications fully.

These are my Amazon must-haves for health and fitness!

These are Amazon products that I put to good use. I truly care about my health so I purchase products that align with my health habits and beliefs. These are products for exercise, activewear, supplements, healthy habits, and low-tox home products. I enjoy sharing items that benefit me and help me stay healthy.

Amazon Must Haves For Health And Fitness:

 

Exercise

I used to be someone who loved going to the gym but now I prefer home workouts. It’s an easy and convenient way for me to stay in shape. I have a few pieces of exercise equipment that I use regularly. These are my Amazon must-haves for exercise.

1. Exercise Mat

I use an exercise mat to do glute workouts, abs, and stretching. I love that this mat is thick and has great padding. It’s easy to roll it out when it’s time to workout then roll it back up and store it out of the way.

2. Booty Bands

I use booty bands to do glute workouts. I use them to add some resistance when I do hip thrusters, glute kickbacks, fire hydrants, etc. These bands are comfortable and stay in place when I’m working out.

3. Dumbbells

I know that using weights is great for building muscle and increasing your metabolism. That is why I prefer to use dumbbells over body weight. I like to use a weight that is not too light and not too heavy. These dumbells are 12 lbs each and provide me with the perfect resistance to build muscle.

These workout gloves have good padding and keep my hands from getting calluses. I also can’t deny the fact that when I put these gloves on I feel like it’s go time!

Another one of my Amazon must-haves is these over-the-ear headphones. I no longer use AirPods because I don’t like EMF radiation running through my brain. I went back to using wired headphones. I love jamming on my favorite uplifting music while I do my workouts although I listen to podcasts and audiobooks sometimes too.

6. Water Bottle

This water bottle is 72oz. Yes, I know it is big but I fill it up and take it with me everywhere I go for the day. This helps me stay hydrated during my workout AND throughout my day. I love that this water bottle keeps my water cold and the stainless steel does not leach heavy metals.

Activewear

These are my Amazon must-haves for activewear. It is rare that I ever buy Lululemon workout clothes anymore. Don’t get me wrong- I like them but sometimes I can’t justify the cost when I have found activewear I love from Amazon. They feel good, look good and the price is unbeatable.

7. Leggings

These two brands of leggings are definitely Lululemon dupes. These are leggings that I will repurchase over and over again. They stay in place, tuck in the tummy, are super soft, and have a variety of colors. Both of these brands of leggings are LEGIT! 8. Shorts

I prefer to wear longer biker shorts when working out. I do not like when my shorts are too short and rolling up. These biker shorts fit nicely without being too restrictive. I also love these running shorts. They are comfortable, breathable, cute, and have pockets. They are both my go-to pairs of Amazon workout shorts.

9. Tops

These activewear tops are super simple, cute, and breathable, and come in so many colors. They also have built-in bras which is nice. I also love that it’s cropped but not too short. These shirts are also must-have activewear from Amazon.

10. Jacket

I love that this activewear jacket keeps you warm but is still breathable and fashionable. It’s form-fitting and super soft. It’s my favorite jacket to wear when there is a breeze outside and you need a light jacket. I’m always buying black but they also have a variety of colors.

These are must-have sports bras from Amazon. They come in 3 packs and have many colors to choose from. They have padding, fit perfectly and I love the thicker straps. I love these sports bras so much and I love the price! I will rebuy these sports bras in different colors too!

Supplements 

I believe in eating healthy and using supplements for what they are- to supplement your health. These are my must-have Amazon supplements. I prefer to use brands that I can trust because they use natural ingredients. If you read the labels you can see that these products don’t have any artificial flavors or natural flavors(aka unwanted chemicals).

12. Protein Powder

I like both vegan and dairy protein powders. I used to think that I had to be dairy-free because I would get acne from whey protein. I then realized that it is all about quality. When I buy protein with dairy it is from grass-fed cows. I love this plant-based protein powder and this grass-fed whey protein. Both taste delicious, mix well, and have simple ingredients. I also love that the whey protein has collagen in it which is great for skin, hair, and nails. These protein powders are a convenient way to add more protein to your diet. I love the chocolate peanut butter flavors in both, however, they both have more flavors to choose from.

13. Women’s Multi-Vitamin

I love these gummy women’s multivitamins. I love that the ingredients are organic and they have no artificial flavors or ingredients. If you read the back of the label you can see that they are made from fruits and vegetables. Some supplements have unnecessary synthetic ingredients but not these gummies.

14. Probiotic

I mix up the probiotics I use to have different strains but these are the ones I’m loving right now. Probiotics are a must-have for me because they keep my gut healthy. I see such great improvements in digestion, bloating, and having clear skin. These probiotics have natural ingredients.

I would say that I drink water 98% of the time(besides my morning coffee or tea). I don’t drink sugary drinks or soda. Sometimes water is not enough and I feel like I need more hydration. They have great flavors without being too sweet.

One of the health habits I have built is to make a daily green juice. I use my Ninja blender to blend in leafy greens, bananas, chia seeds, or flaxseeds, and my greens powder supplement. I mix it up but that is my go-to recipe. It also works great for making smoothies, salsa, and other mixes. It’s a great purchase that has served me on my health and fitness journey.

5 Health Hacks For Women (Skin Edition)

These health hacks are all about getting your skin clean, exfoliated, massaged, and moisturized. I DO NOT have perfect skin by any means, but I have come a long way.

There was a time when my face had acne the majority of the time. It was not fun to deal with and I hated seeing all the blemishes when I looked in the mirror.

Now, I have come to the place where my skin is clear and smooth most of the time. I still get occasional breakouts and blemishes. I am still human, but my skin looks way better than it did before.

I love creating little hacks and habits that I can do consistently to better my health. That is why I also created habits to help me keep my skin healthy.

In this post, I will share with you health hacks that have helped my skin be more clear, clean, and moisturized.

 I am all about making healthy habits that I do most of the time. I fall off track sometimes but I always go back to habits.

Health Hacks: Skin Edition

 

1. Dry Brush

One of the health hacks I began doing is dry brushing my face. Dry brushing helps to remove dead skin cells from the surface of your skin, promoting smoother and softer skin. It also stimulates blood flow to the skin, which may contribute to a healthier complexion. I learned that dry brushing may support lymphatic drainage, helping to reduce puffiness and promote detoxification by aiding the removal of waste from your lymphatic system. The gentle pressure from dry brushing can stimulate collagen production, contributing to skin firmness and elasticity. By exfoliating the skin’s surface, dry brushing can enhance the absorption of skincare products, allowing them to penetrate more effectively.

I typically dry brush my face once or twice a week before I shower. I gently massage my skin for 1-2 minutes. I keep it simple but consistent and I have seen great results.

2. Gua Sha

Another health hack for my skin is using a Gua Sha tool with oil. Gua sha involves gentle scraping motions across the skin, which can stimulate blood circulation. Better blood flow can contribute to a healthier complexion and radiates the skin. Gua sha is also another way to promote lymphatic drainage, helping to reduce puffiness and remove toxins from the skin. The massaging action of a gua sha tool can help relieve facial tension and promote relaxation. This can contribute to a more youthful and relaxed appearance. Using a gua sha tool in conjunction with skincare products may improve their absorption. The tool can help distribute products more evenly and encourage penetration into the skin. That is why I always use it in combination with Rosehip Oil.

I usually use my gua sha tool every other night with rosehip oil. I can tell that my skin looks more smooth and moisturized. When I wake up in the morning my skin looks soft and glowy from the oil being massaged in.

3. Face Massage

Using a tool to do face massages has been another health hack for my skin. I have realized that it is all about stimulating blood flow to the skin. Using a face massage tool is another way to do that. It is another way to improve circulation and can contribute to a natural glow. Gentle massages can help reduce fluid retention and promote lymphatic drainage, leading to a reduction in facial puffiness and swelling.

I use my face massager alternating every other night. One night I use the gua sha and the next I use my face massage. Both of these tools help my skin naturally glow because the oil is gently rubbed in.

4. Homemade Face Mask

I love to create homemade facemasks on my skin. That is why I added this to my health hacks for skin. I mix a small amount of manuka honey and a dash of cinnamon in a bowl and put it on my face for 20 minutes. I do this once a week.

Manuka Honey is derived from the nectar of the Manuka tree in New Zealand. It has so many great skincare benefits such as being a natural moisturizer, inflammatory, anti-bacterial, rich in antioxidants, and healing wounds and scars. It has been such a benefit to moisturizing my skin and healing my acne scars.

Cinnamon also has anti-bacterial properties, antioxidants, and anti-inflammatory compounds. These two products make a simple yet effective facemask.

5. Cold Face Washes

This may seem uncomfortable and weird but I have learned to love cold face washes. Cold water can help constrict blood vessels and reduce inflammation, leading to a temporary reduction in facial puffiness. This is particularly beneficial in the morning to wake up and refresh the skin. The cool temperature of cold water can also stimulate blood circulation in the skin, promoting a healthy and vibrant complexion. Cold water can temporarily tighten and constrict pores, giving the skin a smoother appearance. This can be especially beneficial for those with enlarged pores. Lastly, cold water can soothe and calm red or irritated skin. It’s a gentle way to alleviate redness and inflammation.

Why I Love To Drink A Daily Green Juice

Green Juice has become a part of my everyday routine because of its many benefits.

One of the healthy habits that I have is to drink green juice daily(with an occasional missed day). It was hard for me to get all my daily veggies in so I found a way to pack in lots of nutrients into my morning juice. This has been very beneficial to my skin and overall health.

Drinking green juice is great for gut health, clearing the skin, reducing inflammation, improving digestion, weight loss and so many other benefits. You can pack one drink with powders, vegetables, fruits, seeds, and so many great ingredients.

This post is all about the reason why I love to make drinking green juice part of my daily routine.

Blending Versus Juicing

Juicing is when you use a juicer to juice your veggies. This way of drinking green juice is great for the fast absorption of vitamins and minerals into your bloodstream. This process extracts the fiber from the vegetables while leaving the nutrients. This leads to a more liquid consistency that can be packed with so many vegetables. Some of my favorite veggies to juice are celery, cucumber, carrots, beets, and kale. I also like to add lemon, and ginger, and sprinkle in chia seeds or flaxseeds.

Blending

Blending is when you use a blender to blend vegetables and fruit. By blending you keep the fiber in the juice making it a great choice for removing toxins. It is a slower release of nutrients to the bloodstream. What’s great about using a blender is that you can add powders and seeds to blend as well. The consistency of this is thicker and more filling. You can’t pack as many veggies, however, you can add any other ingredients you’d like. My favorite green juice is mixed greens, banana, chia seeds, and green powder. It’s simple and packed with many nutrients.

My Juicing Method

When I make green juice I usually buy vegetables in bulk. This is because juicing requires more vegetables since it removes the fiber and you are left with pure juice. Once I bring the veggies home I wash them and then create three days worth of juices. I don’t like to go any longer than that because it’s not as fresh. Just my preference. I usually store these in glass bottles.

In the past, I have done a 7-day juice cleanse. This was a great way for me to give my digestive system a break and pack a ton of vitamins and nutrients into my body. The first three days were hard but then I began to feel energized and clear-minded. I also noticed that my skin looked so healthy and my blemishes disappeared.

My Blending Method 

Using the blender is my go-to way of making my green juices each day. For me, it is just easier to clean a blender. Also, I love that I can add other forms of green powders, seeds, and powders to my juice. Sometimes I add maca root powder to help balance my hormones. I sometimes add hemp powder for protein.

This mixture makes me regular in the restroom. HAHA! All the fiber helps you be regular. I love that I am adding so many nutrients to my body every morning by making these green juices.
