5 Health Hacks For Women (Skin Edition)

These health hacks are all about getting your skin clean, exfoliated, massaged, and moisturized. I DO NOT have perfect skin by any means, but I have come a long way.

health hacks for women

There was a time when my face had acne the majority of the time. It was not fun to deal with and I hated seeing all the blemishes when I looked in the mirror.

Now, I have come to the place where my skin is clear and smooth most of the time. I still get occasional breakouts and blemishes. I am still human, but my skin looks way better than it did before.

I love creating little hacks and habits that I can do consistently to better my health. That is why I also created habits to help me keep my skin healthy.

In this post, I will share with you health hacks that have helped my skin be more clear, clean, and moisturized.

I am all about making healthy habits that I do most of the time. I fall off track sometimes but I always go back to habits.

Health Hacks: Skin Edition

1. Dry Brush

One of the health hacks I began doing is dry brushing my face. Dry brushing helps to remove dead skin cells from the surface of your skin, promoting smoother and softer skin. It also stimulates blood flow to the skin, which may contribute to a healthier complexion. I learned that dry brushing may support lymphatic drainage, helping to reduce puffiness and promote detoxification by aiding the removal of waste from your lymphatic system. The gentle pressure from dry brushing can stimulate collagen production, contributing to skin firmness and elasticity. By exfoliating the skin’s surface, dry brushing can enhance the absorption of skincare products, allowing them to penetrate more effectively.

I typically dry brush my face once or twice a week before I shower. I gently massage my skin for 1-2 minutes. I keep it simple but consistent and I have seen great results.

2. Gua Sha

Another health hack for my skin is using a Gua Sha tool with oil. Gua sha involves gentle scraping motions across the skin, which can stimulate blood circulation. Better blood flow can contribute to a healthier complexion and radiates the skin. Gua sha is also another way to promote lymphatic drainage, helping to reduce puffiness and remove toxins from the skin. The massaging action of a gua sha tool can help relieve facial tension and promote relaxation. This can contribute to a more youthful and relaxed appearance. Using a gua sha tool in conjunction with skincare products may improve their absorption. The tool can help distribute products more evenly and encourage penetration into the skin. That is why I always use it in combination with Rosehip Oil.

I usually use my gua sha tool every other night with rosehip oil. I can tell that my skin looks more smooth and moisturized. When I wake up in the morning my skin looks soft and glowy from the oil being massaged in.

3. Face Massage

Using a tool to do face massages has been another health hack for my skin. I have realized that it is all about stimulating blood flow to the skin. Using a face massage tool is another way to do that. It is another way to improve circulation and can contribute to a natural glow. Gentle massages can help reduce fluid retention and promote lymphatic drainage, leading to a reduction in facial puffiness and swelling.

I use my face massager alternating every other night. One night I use the gua sha and the next I use my face massage. Both of these tools help my skin naturally glow because the oil is gently rubbed in.

4. Homemade Face Mask

I love to create homemade facemasks on my skin. That is why I added this to my health hacks for skin. I mix a small amount of manuka honey and a dash of cinnamon in a bowl and put it on my face for 20 minutes. I do this once a week.

Manuka Honey is derived from the nectar of the Manuka tree in New Zealand. It has so many great skincare benefits such as being a natural moisturizer, inflammatory, anti-bacterial, rich in antioxidants, and healing wounds and scars. It has been such a benefit to moisturizing my skin and healing my acne scars.

Cinnamon also has anti-bacterial properties, antioxidants, and anti-inflammatory compounds. These two products make a simple yet effective facemask.

5. Cold Face Washes

This may seem uncomfortable and weird but I have learned to love cold face washes. Cold water can help constrict blood vessels and reduce inflammation, leading to a temporary reduction in facial puffiness. This is particularly beneficial in the morning to wake up and refresh the skin. The cool temperature of cold water can also stimulate blood circulation in the skin, promoting a healthy and vibrant complexion. Cold water can temporarily tighten and constrict pores, giving the skin a smoother appearance. This can be especially beneficial for those with enlarged pores. Lastly, cold water can soothe and calm red or irritated skin. It’s a gentle way to alleviate redness and inflammation.

This is such a simple and free hack.

This post was all about the 5 health hacks I have learned for achieving a better complexion and healthier-looking skin.

My 7 Step Non Toxic Makeup Routine For Everyday Wear (So Simple)

This is the non-toxic makeup routine I use most days for a natural look.

I prefer to use makeup that is free of harsh chemicals, reduces the appearance of my pores, feels light on my skin, and adds a light layer of smoothness to my skin.

non toxic makeup

It has been about six months since I switched to a non-toxic makeup routine. I began to learn about the chemicals in conventional makeup brands that can harm our hormones.

Many makeup brands have parabens, synthetic fragrances, formaldehyde, talc, and more chemicals. Since makeup is something I wear often I decided to make a change. For this reason, I have made it a goal to switch out my makeup products.

I am learning new things every day when it comes to non-toxic personal care. The brand Ilia was the first brand that I switched all of my makeup to. So far I like the way my makeup has looked and that my skin does not break out.

In this post, I will share my non-toxic makeup routine.

My Non-Toxic Makeup Routine:

1. Primer

Once I have moisturized my face the first step in my non-toxic makeup routine is to apply Ilia Primer. This makes a smooth base for the rest of my makeup. It gives my skin a light glow and diminishes the appearance of my pores. I also love the way this primer makes my skin feel and look soft when I apply the rest of my makeup.

2. Concealer

I apply Ilia concealer on my under eyes and in areas that have dark spots or blemishes. A little goes a long way so I just add a small amount. I lightly dab these spots with a sponge or my fingers. I love that this concealer brightens up my under eyes and covers up spots without looking cakey.  They also have a variety of shades to choose from.

3. Foundation

The next step in my non-toxic makeup routine is to apply Ilia foundation. I take a makeup sponge and apply spots all over my face then dab it in. I like to keep my makeup light so I do not go overboard with this step. The great thing is that you can add as little or as much as you’d like. The finish is more dewy and light to medium coverage. This foundation also has many shades to choose from. A huge benefit of this foundation is that it is SPF 40.

4. Blush and Lips

I like to add color to my cheeks and lips. That is why step four in my non-toxic makeup routine is to use the Ilia Multi-Stick for blush and lipstick. This multi-stick is creamy and adds a nice color to your lips and cheeks. I love that this one product has two functions and goes great with the rest of the Ilia line. They have a lot of great shades.

5. Mascara

Next, I curl my lashes and apply Ilia’s Limitless Lash Mascara. This makes my lashes look long. I also like that the wand separates my lash hairs. I love that this mascara does not get clumpy or flake-off. It is the perfect way to make my eyelashes look more full but natural. The best part is that it comes off easy with water.

6. Setting Powder

Once all the main steps of my makeup application are done I sometimes add Ilia’s Setting Powder. I have found that this step helps my makeup last throughout the day. It also helps it look more matte than dewy. What I like about this product is that it is translucent and has a soft finish. I don’t always add this step if I want my makeup to look more dewy. It’s totally up to how you prefer your finish whether you add this step or not.

7. Setting Pray

The last step in my routine is to apply Ilia’s blue light face mist. This step adds an extra layer of hydration to your skin. It also protects the skin from blue light and pollution. This is also a step that I do sometimes depending on my plans for the day. I like the glow it adds to my face.

Non Toxic Products I Switched To (From Amazon)

Switching from conventional products to nontoxic products can seem overwhelming at the beginning. That is why in this post, I will show you how to go from overwhelmed to well on your way to non-toxic living.

Firstly, switching out your products to nontoxic products does not have to be done overnight. It is much easier and less overwhelming when done one item at a time.

In this post, I will go over why non-toxic products are a great switch for your health, an easy method to switch without the overwhelm, and the exact non-toxic products I switched to (from Amazon).

Why You Should Switch To Non-Toxic Products From Amazon

Making This Switch Is Better For Your Health

In today’s market, many companies claim to be non-toxic, healthy, and natural. Unfortunately, these terms are not regulated and therefore many people purchase these products believing they are making a healthy choice. The reality is that we have to read labels for ourselves to know if these products are truly non-toxic.

This is important because we inhale these products and consume them, and they go through our bloodstream when applied to our skin. Since we have so many cleaning products, skincare products, and products in general in our homes, it might be wise to purchase products that are not harmful to us.

Conventional products can disrupt our hormones and cause an array of health issues when used over long periods. This is because they use chemicals including phosphates, phthalates, chlorine, synthetic fragrances, formaldehyde, and many others.

Now, it sounds daunting to have to read ingredient labels, but that is why I began to slowly but surely put together a list of non-toxic products I love from Amazon.

Making The Switch To Non-Toxic Products Less Overwhelming

The best way I have found to switch my products is on a run-out basis. Whenever I run out of an item I research a non-toxic option to replace the old product. Also, two apps I use to scan products to check the ingredients are Think Dirty and Bobby Approved.

Remember, it’s not about being perfect. It’s just about making small changes that compound over time and can benefit your health long term.

Non-Toxic Makeup Products

As someone who enjoys light makeup most days, I have found that Ilia Makeup products have been a great switch. These are the products I use which include a primer, foundation, blush and lipstick, and mascara.

I love that the Ilia skin tint foundation has SPF 40 to protect your skin from the sun. I also love that these makeup products feel lightweight on the skin.

  • primer
  • foundation
  • blush
  • lipstick
  • mascara

Non-Toxic Haircare Products

This is the non-toxic shampoo and conditioner set I use. I have found that this set keeps my hair feeling soft and clean. Also, if you like to wait a couple of days in between washes Acure has a great dry shampoo.

  • shampoo & conditioner
  • dry shampoo

Non-Toxic Lotion, Bodywash, Toothpaste, And Deodorant

Once I ran out of conventional products I was using I switched to these.

This Avalon Organics Lotion keeps my dry skin soft. I tend to need more thick lotions because of my dry skin and this one works great.

  • body lotion
  • body wash
  • laundry detergent
  • toothpaste
  • deodorant

I use Dr. Bronner’s unscented Castille soap for my body wash. It is gentle on my skin and can be used for more than body wash. Some people add it to their cleaning solutions, and laundry, and wash their pets with it.

The current toothpaste I’ve been using is by the brand called David’s. It is free of fluoride. It has peppermint, coconut oil, and tea tree oil.

The deodorant I use is by the brand Humble. So far this deodorant has been my favorite because it works. I have tried other brands that didn’t work at keeping my armpits feeling fresh with a gentle scent.

  • body wash
  • toothpaste
  • deodorant

This post was all about the nontoxic products I switched to from Amazon. Remember, it’s all about making small changes little by little. My motto is to learn as you go.
